The fun-loving Shriners Fraternity has been around for 150 years, and the hard-working Shriners Hospitals for Children have been around for 100 of those years. Oregonians are very proud that the idea of creating the hospital system was born at an Imperial Session held in Portland in 1920, and we are also fortunate to have a hospital located in Portland.

The Daughters of the Nile organization has one charitable mission – the Shriners Hospitals for Children. For those 100 years, we have worked hard for, and alongside our Shriners, to provide amazing care to over 1.4 million children so far.

Today, the world is a different place and the Shriners Hospitals have been, and will continue to change along with it. Not all facilities are hospitals. Not all programs are in hospitals. More children are being seen in an “outpatient” or “out of facility” setting, and frankly the name no longer fits the mission. In addition, many states are not allowing the use of the name Shriners Hospitals for Children to describe any facility that is not a hospital.

From Imperial Potentate Jeffrey Sowder: We have become far more than a collection, or even a system, of hospitals. We have become leaders in care, research and medical education. We give our patients and families so much more than medical care. We provide as many resources as we have available – from custom prosthetics to adaptive sports opportunities, to assistive devices that encourage personal independence. We help them build confidence and self-esteem.

The new name, the new brand, for the hospital system is simply Shriners Children’s tm.

Possibilities:
Shriners Children’s Hospital – Portland
Shriners Children’s Medical Center – Pasadena
Shriners Children’s Genomic Research Institute

This branding change creates consistency and unity for all locations and for all means of providing care, with the continued desire to serve more children and families than ever before. Watch the video below, which was distributed by the Marketing Department of Shriners International.
